In 1996, the world was a different place. The top song was Don’t Speak by No Doubt. Minimum wage was $4.75 and everyone was saying "show me the money"! Ethernet inventor Robert Metcalfe predicted that the internet would collapse in 1996. Oprah started her famous book club. Travelocity opened online. Marvel Comics filed for bankruptcy. Rent opened on Broadway, revolutionizing modern musical theatre, and the current revival of Chicago started a record-shattering run on Broadway. And Sterling Playmakers was founded here in Sterling, Virginia.
A lot has changed in the last 26 years, but two things have not - our commitment to quality community theatre for the ENTIRE community, and our logo. And we think it may be time to give our logo a bit of an update. And we want your help!
Sterling Playmakers is hosting a logo design contest! We will be accepting submissions between May 1, 2022 and June 5, 2022. Designs can be submitted via email to logocontest@sterlingplaymakers.org.
Considerations for a Logo Design
We recommend taking the time to understand Sterling Playmakers: who we are, what we do, why we do it, and how we do it. Explore the website and learn about our history and our mission. We want our logo to speak to our brand.
Our logo will need to be in png and jpg formats; however, this is not necessary for initial designs. If you do not have the ability to create your design in digital format, you can also provide a sketch or drawing of your design. We just ask that you be willing to work with a graphic designer to create the design in the appropriate formats if selected.
Our logo needs to be used in color, all-black, and all-white variations.

A logo design should be simple. Many of the most impactful and successful logos in history are surprisingly simple.

A logo design should be eye-catching. We want audiences and volunteers to instantly recognize our logo in promotional uses.

Public polling is being held now and will conclude on September 2, 2022. The poll includes our current logo too!
The Board of Directors will make a final decision regarding changing the logo in the Fall of 2022 and an announcement will be made by early 2023.
